Carlos A. Hernández, is a Policy and Program Coordinator at MILPA. He is a first-generation Chicano from Woodland, CA, with roots in Jalisco, Mexico. He's dedicated to empowering system-impacted youth through cultural rites of passage, civic engagement programs, culturally relevant mentorship, and bridging cross-sector resources. As a Certified Wellness Coach and Youth Mental Health First Aider, he emphasises the need for cultural healing, behavioral health, as well as economic and concrete supports to create healthy communities for youth to thrive.
Carlos engages in state and local advocacy for justice policy reforms with stakeholders and youth leaders. He holds an A.A. in Sociology and has experience as a law library clerk and community organizer, giving him a deep understanding of policy and its impact on communities disproportionately affected by mass incarceration. He focuses on narrative building and bridging partnerships, advocating for juvenile and criminal justice reform through a health-centered approach.
